2010 Car Reliability Rankings: South Korean Cars vs. GM Cars

admin 0

South Korean cars from Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors Corporation have gained popularity among American consumers over the past decade. This popularity appears to be due, in part, to the price and reliability of their products relative to the price and reliability of similar offerings from the Big Three.

In this article, I list Hyundai and Kia sedans, trucks, hatchbacks and sport utility vehicles whose 2010 average car reliability ratings for the most recent age range, 0-4 years, exceed the average reliability GPA of 2010 from General Motors Corporation for the same recent model years. GM’s 1.25 average GPA is chosen as it falls between Ford’s 2.21 and Chrysler’s 0.99. The reliability grade point average uses the standard scale of 0 to 4.

Cars that outperform GM are listed by manufacturer. For a vehicle to be listed, it must provide at least a 2-year data history.

Cars by Hyundai motor company that exceed the GM mean are:

Tea Hyundai elantra, a small sedan or truck with a 2010 reliability GPA for the 0-4 year age range of 3.25,

Tea Hyundai accent, a small sedan or 2-door hatchback with a GPA of 3.00,

Tea Hyundai azera, a family sedan with a GPA of 3.00,

The 4 cylinder Hyundai sonata, a family sedan with a GPA of 3.00,

The V6 Hyundai santa fe, a 4-door midsize SUV with a 2.75 GPA,

All of these Hyundai cars have a reliability GPA much higher than the GM average and even exceed the Ford average.

Cars by Kia Motors Corporation that exceed the GM mean are:

Tea Kia rondo, a wagon with a GPA of 3.00,

Tea Kia Sorento, a family sedan with a GPA of 1.33.

Three of these models have a reliability GPA much higher than the GM average, and they also exceed the Ford average.
