How to Give Your Boston Terrier a Bath

The bathroom does not have to be a difficult situation for you or your dog. In fact, my pair of Boston Terriers love bath time.

The first step is to prepare the bath. Lay out your shampoo and towels. Open the shower door or curtain.

The second step is to take the dog to the bathroom. I lead one of the dogs to the bathroom and the other will follow me.

The third step is to put the dog in the bathtub. You will often have to pick up your dog. I just pat the side of the tub and my two dogs will jump in.

The fourth step is to firmly hold the shower head and keep it away from the dogs.

The fifth step is to open the water. It should be warm but not hot. If you’ve bathed a baby before, that’s the right temperature.

The sixth step is to wet the dog. With one hand he holds the dog’s neck and with the other the shower head. Slowly wet the dog. Be careful not to get water on the dog’s face or ears. (I wash them with a damp cloth after bathing them.)

The seventh step is to turn off the water and put a small streak of dog shampoo on the back. Never use human shampoo, as it can dry out or irritate your skin.

The eighth step is lathering up the shampoo; slowly work around your back. Next I wash the neck and front legs. Then I lather the belly and hind legs. Be very careful with the dog’s genitals and tail. These are very sensitive areas. Rub firmly. Make sure you don’t miss any areas.

The ninth step is rinsing. Rinse and rinse again. You don’t want to leave soap on your dog.

The tenth step is to let the dog out of the bathtub. Let them tremble.

The eleventh step is to take a damp cloth and wash the dog’s face and ears. This is a very sensitive area, so be very gentle.

The twelfth step is to dry the dog with a towel. My Boston Terriers love this.

The last step is to let the dog out of the bathroom. My dogs run around like crazy. I usually take a bath followed by rinsing out the tub and soaking the floor.
