Block lettering is a general term used to describe all lettering styles that are drawn or constructed. They are built to specifications using squares or blocks. A young designer or student can use a piece of paper with the squares already drawn on it as a graph sheet. He can draw the squares himself by drawing straight or parallel horizontal and vertical lines that intersect each other at an angle. All letters, with the exception of “M”, “W” and “I”, occupy 5 squares down and 3 squares wide. However, the letters “W” and “M” take 5 down, 5 wide. On the other hand, the letter “I” occupies 5 squares down and 1 square wide.

3. All letters are standing upright. They do not bow down but stand upright.

4. They are not written but drawn or built.

5. The squares of equal size serve as construction aids.

6. They are bold and easy to read.

Construction is not a very laborious task. As already discussed, the construction of block letters involves the use of precisely measured squares on paper. If available, the artist must follow the rules and guidelines governing the construction of capital letters.

In addition, the artist has to use a pointed pencil in the drawing of the squares and in the construction of the letters. All measurements must be made accurately. It is recommended to use straight measuring instruments, such as rulers, to ensure precision and accuracy.

The curved parts of the letters can be created using any suitable circular objects, such as the edges of coins or protractors.

It should be noted that the squares that serve as a guide for the construction of the letters should be created with a lighter grade pencil (HB or HH). The marks should be created lightly so that they can be easily erased after the construction of the letters.
