Alimentum and Nutramigen

Have you heard of the difference between Nutramigen and Energix? I can tell you that Enfamil and Nutramigen are not the same. They are both brands of protein powder. So how do they differ? Let’s find out.

Nutramigen suppliers

Casein/Energetic: Just like other powder, Nutramigen and Enfamil contain casein or whey protein which is derived from cow’s milk. What makes these different is the Casein/Energetic Difference. What makes them distinct is that Enfamil contains 18% casein while Nutramigen has an artificial casein substitute. Enfamil is from a can while Similac contains a tiny plastic bottle with a long handle and a very hard plastic top. It looks like a can but it isn’t

Casein: There really isn’t any comparison between these two formulas. Except for the fact that one is chemically engineered to give infants an adequate supply of milk protein. The flavorings in both are very similar. No one will taste a difference between nutramigen and alimentum.

Enfamil: I honestly thought that I would never find a difference between these two protein powders. However, I was wrong. While I have read that Enfamil can be hard to digest and get rid of in babies when you feed it to them for the first 48 hours, it seems to work. That is because it contains casein and not casein substitute. When I feed my babies a powder formula they have a very difficult time breaking down the powder.

Alimentum: My little one had some discomfort after he started on nutramigen but since then he has been off of it. He still drinks the alimentum. I did notice that the discomfort was gone when he went off of the formula but I am not sure if it was because of the change in formula or if it was just the flavor that he was used to. Either way he is much happier. There really isn’t any comparison between the two formulas. Lagging skin, diarrhea, and excessive gas are all gone in my baby.

Alimentum and nutramigen are both healthy options for infants who are allergic to cow’s milk or soy. There is no clear cut choice between the two. You will need to decide which one will work best for your baby. Only you can make that decision based on the child’s needs and symptoms. Consult with your pediatrician to decide if these types of formulas would be right for your precious little one.
