The tie is associated with business, special occasions and sophistication. Skimping on a quality tie or wearing an old-fashioned tie can send the wrong message at an important time, as can the color of the tie.

What message am I projecting by wearing this colored tie? Here are some basic colors used and the message they project:

Red It is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination, as well as passion, desire and love. Wearing a red tie means that I am a fighter. Dark Blue/ Navy Blue- Wearing a dark/navy blue tie means I’m not in the mood for nonsense. Be serious when you’re around me. Don’t waste my time.

Yellow/ Lemon/ Gold – Yellow is the color of the sun. It is associated with joy, happiness, intellect and energy. Wearing a yellow tie means that I am a positive and energetic person. I’m not a quitter and I’m going to finish what I started. I am also an intelligent person.

Purple/ Lilac – Purple combines the stability of blue and the energy of red. Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury and ambition. It transmits wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic. Wearing a purple or lilac tie means that I am a good teacher. Green/ Lime/ Aqua- Green is the color of nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness and fertility. Green has a strong emotional correspondence with security. Dark green is also commonly associated with money. Wearing a lighter shade of green or lime means I’m in harmony. I want to resolve the conflict to work effectively. Wearing a darker shade of green means that I am ambitious and want to be successful.

White It is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity and virginity. It is considered to be the color of perfection. Wearing a white tie means that I want to purify my thoughts and actions to make way for a new beginning. White is perfect for weddings and special occasions.

Black it is associated with power, elegance, formality, death, evil and mystery. Black denotes strength and authority; it is considered a very formal, elegant and prestigious color (black tie, black Mercedes). Black is also the symbol of grievance. Wearing a black tie means that you are ready for a formal occasion. It also means that I am ready for the unknown and I am opening the door to mystery.

Grey silver they are lighter shades of black and have similar meanings to black but to a lesser extent. Wearing a silver/grey tie also means that you are ready for a formal occasion and that you are a powerful person.

Not everyone consciously sends you messages wearing ties.

World leaders and movers and shakers who are filmed by the press and in the news know they must make statements.

The guy next to you at work may not have the same idea.

However, color combinations and tie designs are chosen by people unconsciously. However, when they use them, they have made some choice. If your color schemes are efficient in any of the colors, they are making the same statements as above, or appropriately so.
