Butterball Indoor Turkey Fryer Reviews – Or How I Break Tradition

admin 0

I broke tradition and I’m delighted! Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, turkey has always been THE holiday food. I remember watching my mom (with love?) baking our holiday meal. She was always roasting, basting and carefully turning the bird. She would get up early on Thanksgiving morning to prepare all the other dishes for the meal, since the turkey took three or four hours in the oven while she took care of it.

While we all went to the Macy’s Day Parade or spent time running with our cousins, Mom tended her bird. I guess she knew what she was doing. It was always delicious.

Well, that was the tradition I wanted to keep alive in my own family. For a few years we went to Mom every year. All the cousins came. My kids had a great time. I have to spend time with my cousins. Of course I helped: I set the table, brought out salad… But the turkey was still Mom’s domain.

At some point, Thanksgiving became “mine.” Every year all the cousins come for the same “fun day”, but now I’m older and the day has lost its fun for me. I’m responsible for the food, and most importantly… The turkey!

What a mess!

I spend all day “in the oven.” aso. basting I turn around and check. One year is overcooked. A year is raw. My kitchen seems to have been through a war and so have I. I thought it would get better with time, but Thanksgiving every year is worse than the last.

Last year due to some health issues our big family Thanksgiving was cancelled. We were invited to friends. I could not believe it. The thought of four extra guests for Thanksgiving would have given me hives. Rachel assured me it wasn’t a problem, and she wasn’t. We entered a clean and quiet house with delicious smells coming from the kitchen. Rachel was in the living room enjoying her guests.

When the food arrived I was amazed at how delicious everything was. The turkey was absolutely delicious! Juicy, moist and tender meat with such crispy skin. Rachel was over Mom and looked so calm and relaxed (she’s nothing like how I look when I’m hosting Thanksgiving).

As I cleaned up, I asked Rachel when she became a “superwoman” (she was always scruffy and certainly not a housewife). That’s when she shared her secret with me: she fried the turkey in a Master Built Indoor Fryer. That was it.

That’s when I learned the SECRET. My grandmother had baked her own bread (without a bread machine). My great-grandmother had washed all the family’s clothes by hand. And my mother roasted her turkeys in the oven… But I live in the 21st century!

She had heard of fried turkey before, but wouldn’t consider doing it with the danger of a large pot of oil boiling over a flame. Rachel laughed at the idea. She showed me her Master electric fryer built on her counter. She looked like a French fryer, only bigger.

I had to have one.

I’ve been using mine for a year now and can’t wait to host the family for Thanksgiving this year.

My Butterball Indoor Turkey Fryer Review

  • The Masterbuilt Indoor Fryer is just like a French fryer. So easy to use! Holds up to a 12 pound turkey (says 14, but 12 or less is better) Fill fryer with up to 2 gallons of oil – most of the oil stays in the fryer and won’t soak the turkey You can even keep reusing the oilYou set the temperature and time
  • When the oil is hot, just drop the turkey in and go… Frying takes 4 minutes per pound of turkey (11 pounds equals 44 minutes) That’s it! The greasy mess stays inside. Oil can be drained through the spout at the back for reuse. Most parts are dishwasher safe.

Yes, I know you wanted a longer review, we are talking about the Thanksgiving turkey, after all, a tradition. But that’s all. I’m sure my mom felt guilty the first time she bought permanent press clothes. But would you find it ironic that the permanent press does much better off without a job?
