Florence, Italy – Six Great Attractions

Today, I’ll give you six great attractions to see when you visit Florence, Italy. When visiting Florence, bring good walking shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking in the often busy city. Also, try to visit in spring or winter, which are the cooler months.

Bargello

This is a fabulous art museum that was once used as a prison. Lots of Renaissance era art here.

battistero

It is a baptistery that is shaped like an octagon. The Battistero is a great example of Roman style.

Bell tower

Designed by Giotto, this marble Gothic bell tower is magnificent. However, be prepared to walk. There are just over 400 steps.

Cathedral

The Duomo was completed in 1436 and is a fantastic cathedral. In addition to seeing this magnificent structure, you can also attend mass here.

Uffizi Gallery

This gallery houses some famous works of art, such as the Battle of San Romano by Paolo Uccello. It is relatively inexpensive. Tickets are between $8 and $12 USD.

Lordship Square

What a famous square. In 1497, the Bonfire of the Vanities took place in Piazza della Signoria. This square is also home to the Neptune Fountain, which dates back to the 16th century.

If you love the Renaissance and want to see some of the most famous works of that era, Florence, Italy is a place to visit. Florence is also home to the statue of David by Donatello and David by Michelangelo. The Bargello would make a great first stop on your Florence vacation.
