Quick and Dirty Facts on Google AdSense: A Beginner’s Guide to Getting Started

I recently revamped two of my blogs to try and take advantage of the passive income associated with Google AdSense. I admit, I just launched AdSense last year and didn’t spend a lot of time fine-tuning how AdSense works on my blog. Here are some tips from the experts on how to maximize passive income with Google AdSense.

1) Create the ad units to blend in with your blog. You will need to go into your AdSense control panel and enter the hexadecimal color codes for your website or blog. Make sure the text color, background color, and link colors match your blog.

2) Do not use borders around ad unit boxes. Again, you want the boxes to blend. Just color-code the borders to match the background and they become invisible.

3) Use all 5 ad units on each page. You are allowed 3 units of text. Use those. Always place one at the top below your page header. It is imperative that this matches your page.

4) Use different types of ad units that appeal to your target market and for products or services that you can cross-sell to your visitors. For example, on my eBay sales blog, I have 2 referral listings. One is for eBay Video Professor and the other is for Stamps.com. Both services are directly related to eBay sales, so my visitors may be interested in them.

5) Do not place an ad unit at the bottom of the page. Most likely no one will see it.

6) There are numerous programs, ebooks and kits that you can buy regarding AdSense. Be careful what you buy from the “experts” regarding AdSense, there’s a lot of fluff out there. It’s best to talk to the people you know in your groups and forums about what works for them.
