Ways to find a lost pet

Finding lost pets is entirely up to your luck as they roam unknown places very easily. There are still a few ways you can possibly find your pet.

You need to look for him in the neighborhood as that is the closest place to his house where he could have headed. Ask your neighbors if they have seen it. If you can’t find it in the neighborhood, print out some flyers with a photo of your pet and a few details and pass them out to your neighbors and a few people who live nearby.

The best place to go is a foster home where you can find him safely. Many government agencies take care of stray animals and turn them over to shelters. Do not call the foster home or animal control department because they may not be able to identify your pet the way you described it. This can happen because the pet may not be in the same condition as when it left you; it could be in a dirty condition that may have changed its appearance. If you had assigned an ID mark to it, you might as well have lost it. Visit the foster home every other day because sometimes it takes more than 72 hours to pick up a pet.

Unfortunately, if you can’t find the pet, the next possible place to find it is the highway maintenance checklist and the shelter’s list of dead animals. The highway maintenance department sends a list to the animal control department, so you have to check them out.

Alternatively, you can also place an ad in the local newspaper. Many people just search the local papers for animal owners. An ad in the newspaper can help you establish the fact that you were actively looking for your pet. This will be more important in case someone else tries to claim the pet.

You can also ask local business franchises to post their flyer which helps a lot to find the pet. Such places include fast food restaurants, gas stations, supermarkets, and convenience stores. Also contact local rescue organizations and give them the brochure because people who don’t want to bring animals home give them to shelters. If rescue staff work closely with local organizations, they will soon find out about any animals that match your pet’s details.
