Why Historians and Americans Are So Concerned About Socialism – Read This Book!

There is much to be said about the economics of socialism, and how accelerating the conversion of a capitalist society to a socialist one can temporarily bring good times, as a socialist leader can turn a nation populist and wreak havoc on a country. nation. We have seen it in recent periods in Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador. Many in America warn that we are in fact going in the wrong direction with our current leadership, in fact I am one of those who do not like the direction in which we are headed.

But instead of me getting into a long debate on the subject, why don’t you do yourself a favor and read a little history on the subject? Here is a good book to read, I highly recommend it:

“Lords of finance”, by Liaquat Ahmed, Penguin Press, New York, NY, (2009), 536 pp., ISBN: 978-15942-01-820.

The book looks at the end of WWI and Hitler’s insane inspiration, and how the NAZIs quickly came to power from a very small group to one of the major parties in just a year and a half. Also discussed are the chaos of war, appeasement, the gold standard, the Banks of England and New York at the time, and of course the Great Depression.

The author suggests that we are in the same place today, and he has a great argument that the graphics look very similar. Another good review of this excellent book can be found online. It was in the New York Times, the title of the article is;

“A Monetary Horror Story That Looks Like Today”, by Janet Maslin on January 14, 2009.

In fact, I recommend reading both, because I don’t want your next bubble to burst, but socialism doesn’t work, read for yourself. Consider all of this.
