How to properly groom your Pomeranian

Pomeranians can be a difficult breed when it comes to grooming. If your pup is too feisty to sit still during regular grooming sessions, a few crackers or some peanut butter can calm him down and help reinforce that grooming can be an enjoyable experience. Their fluffy coat needs frequent grooming, but this can be accomplished with a few simple tools: trimming scissors, cotton swabs, a metal comb, and a pin-head brush.

Pomeranians are prone to dandruff, dry skin, and mats due to their thick coats. Two to three times a week is an ideal brushing schedule for your Pomeranian, with a few extra sessions when he or she is molting. Brush out the undercoat by lifting the top layers of hair. Start where the coat meets the skin and brush to the edges. To prevent excessive matting, spray your Pomeranian’s coat with water before brushing. Supplementing the water with a touch of dog conditioner is also beneficial to the grooming process.

Pin brushes or brushes with fine bristles are the best choice for Pomeranian grooming, as these tools are best for removing loose hair. It is important to remove all loose hair to prevent matting, which can be difficult to remove and extremely uncomfortable for your pet. The folds in the Pomeranian’s coat require the most attention, particularly the areas around the muzzle, anus, and ears. These areas frequently tangle and tangle more than others. It is also mandatory to keep a Pomeranian trimmed regularly. Scheduled trimming will not only keep your Pom looking good, it will also deter parasites that can cause health problems.

While bathing your Pomeranian is a necessity, he should be bathed monthly or bi-monthly. Excessive bathing can have negative effects on your skin, resulting in excessively dry skin and compound matting problems.

Ear cleaning is another important factor in Pomeranian care. Using cotton balls or cotton swabs, gently (and carefully) clean the ear canal. There are several dog ear cleaning fluids available that can help with this process.

Regular and frequent nail trimming is a must for any breed. Keeping your Pomeranian’s nails short is best. Taking care of the quick (the inner part of the nail that extends from the root and contains blood vessels), you can easily trim your Pomeranian’s nails at home every couple of months. Many pets that don’t get their nails done properly end up with impacted nails and their owners have to go to unusual measures to correct these problems, sometimes even requiring surgery.
