If they’re not that old, you may need to replace the doors and drawer fronts before re-lining the cabinets.

The process begins with stripping the kitchen cabinets and sanding them to make them ready for a new surface. I never forget to say that you should strip the outside of your house or wear protective clothing, as this could be dangerous, especially if the cabinet paint has lead in it.

Once you have sanded the cabinets, they are ready to resurface. There are now many options for how to refinish kitchen cabinets and you should be careful when choosing as this can be tricky, especially if you are unfamiliar with the terminology and names of various woods and veneers.

Some of the options you have include wood veneer, laminate, and thermal foil, which is also associated with vinyl. You can also consider non-wood or fake wood like melamine depending on your budget constraints.
