Scholarships for women: why does the government give away millions?
In general there are 3 institutions that give financial aid:
- Government: Stimulate the economy, prevent poverty, social assistance
- Corporate: Building reputation, Public Relations
- Non-Profit Organization: Aid/Social Welfare

Why is the government giving away money?
It is important to understand why the government is giving away the money. There are many reasons. The free money they are giving away is supposed to stimulate the economy. There are also many grants to prevent poverty. They are aimed at disadvantaged people, but also at people with great potential (companies, writers, etc.). As part of the 2009 “Economic Stimulus Package,” the government is giving away more money than ever before.
In 2009 the United States government will give millions:
- $151.5 billion for small businesses
- $186.1 billion for housing and health care
- $86.4 billion for college students and graduates
- $93.4 billion for personal needs and cash prizes
- $57.5 billion for minorities
- $99.7 billion for women
- $96.5 billion for research
- $38.5 billion for community development
- $103 billion for nonprofit organizations
